I've started work on the image backend that will allow inclusion of pictures with the blog. Hopefully I'll be able to knock it off tomorrow but I'm going to take my time and do it right so that hopefully I can store information about the images (and their 'categories' and respective blog associations) all in the one table and use that not only for the blog but also for the gallery pages - dynamic generation and easy updating are what I've got in mind. Of course, I'll also be able to directly access the images for static or long-term pages so it should be a pretty good system, when it's finished.

my past few days...

Well, what an eventful few days I've had! Thursday and Friday I worked at the Lawnton DC (distribution centre). Whoa! That was an experience and a half! For a brief overview of the DC, see today's earlier post. Let me also add that working there is a real eye opener! You can never truly appreciate just how enourmous the company is until you see the DC.
It's awfully hard work as well. Well, depending on what you get to do. Lots of the other retail staff who got called in got to work on the conveyor belts picking totes - real menial, light duty stuff. But me, being the special person I am, I got given a trolley jack and a pile of tags and got told, 'pick these'. So that's what I did for two days. Dragged pallets around the shed and filled them up with stuff. I didn't get one of those niftly little electric pallet truck thingies either. Noo.. I had to do it all on my lonesome. I could barely get up friday morning and by the time I knocked off friday it felt like my legs were going to fall off! The sole also seperated from my shoe when I caught the edge of a pallet, so that didn't help the situation much! I went 'Super Cheap Shoe Repairs' on it though, with a bit of packing tape, as a temporary solution.
Friday night was the first night of Rivers for the year, and we decided to start a little bit low key and go out to dinner with our key students before cruising back to Anna's to chill and watch the tennis (COME ON LLEYTON!!!).
This morning I went into town with the old man - they upgraded the servers at the office so he wanted me to come in and see what I might salvage before they dumped them. I have to say I was surprised, as these comptuers were even older than I thought! I didn't pillage much except a few PCI graphics cards, a network card and a bit of RAM.
After that I headed out to Animato to buy some new strings. D'addario Zyex is my violin string of choice, but they're bloody expensice and I bought a full set, so I'm definitely going to have to justify the purchase with some PRACTICE!!!!! (horror)
Anyhoo, cut a long story short, I then headed into the city centre, bought some new shoes for work (funny that!) and some new music (welcome to the north - the music), then headed back home on the train.

there is a large conveyor belt system with boxes of merch travelling along it and lots of heavy machinery, cool machines that automatically wrap pallets and a cherry picker type machine that lets you get stuff from high up on the back wall pick faces.

I propose we vote for the Hottest 100 at the BEGINNING of the year for a change, going by a preemptive list of what's expected to come out in the coming 12 months. Fair...? Hell no! But it would at least bring some balance to the system!

overall, I say it was a moderately productive day. not everything got done but in all seriousness it was more than I expected I'd get done... what with all the temptations of counterstrike and all!
I also caught up with Dan who I haven't seen since before Christmas... finally met his new baby girl Bethany as well - gorgeous thing! Had a brief but comprehensive time catching up, and I FINALLY got my RotK extended edition back from him as well, so I can spend some quality time watching that again soon :)
TOMORROW IS THE TRIPLEJ HOTTEST 100 WOOOO HOOOO!!!! (and Australia Day or something as well, apparantly). I swear, if Soma Rasa doesn't make it into the countdown I'll be seriously cut. FM107.7 in Brisbane - check j web for frequencies in other areas or to tune in online!

well, I'm a little buggered this evening, having worked quite a big day doing stocktake at caboolture. started quite well and I was paired up with a girl from maroochydore who was nice but fairly quiet... probably to her credit.
and UGH. about 3 hours of our day consisted of counting sandpaper, sandpaper, and more sandpaper. I never really appreciated just how much sandpaper we actually have until I had to count every sheet of it... twice! By the time I was finished my fingers were quite rough. I'll also be happy if I never see another sheet of sandpaper in my life... although this is highly unlikely!
Anyhoo, it was actually a pretty good day. I caught up with one of my lady friends for school who works at that store, who I hadn't seen in quite I while (she's been of backpacking in Vietnam, and took every opportunity to voice the phrase "back in 'nam", which is fair enough). So it was good catching up with her.
It was also good catching up with TJ, who is one of the stocktake managers but someone who I got to know quite well during my stint in head office last year. He's famous for his phone... well he's got another phone now - the novelty of N-Gage wore off, so he gave it to his little brother. Sensible move, TJ.
So that was my day... big day planned tomorrow as I have to start getting my life in order before uni - got rego to pay and forms to fill out and courses to enrol for and car services to organise, so provided I can keep myself away from the computer I should have quite a productive day! Hopefully...
I'm going to have nightmares tonight... sorcerer's apprentice style only with armies of wet-dry sandpaper.

I spent some time yesterday and the day before building and refining the archive pages... it's all the one PHP script using url GET parameters and lots of queries to build the tables of contents and actual blog contents (which are layed out identically to the front page, only you'll see a whole month's worth of posts on one page and a 'back to top' link with each post). They should be exceedingly easy and intuitive to use, so I'll leave that at that - as usual feel free to mail me feedback!
I've also started work on the Atomsk page, so hopefully it won't be too long before that's up.
OOH and I changed the title from 'final_layout' to 'fraseonline.net' ;)

yesterday i received a phone call from my old schoolmate Amanda, who I don't see nearly enough of these days, although she does live walking distance from my place (not that you would walk through d bay by choice). Turns out her brother had decided to be a good lad and wire in her new headunit, but got as far as popping the bonnet and disconnecting the battery before giving up.
so off I went with my trusty multimeter and crimping tool, and in no time at all had it all wired up and pumping phat beats out of the crappy in-dash 4-inchers.
of course, old cars have crazy stocko wiring, and strange things happen when the lights go on... i blew practically every fuse there was to blow when i first attempted to wire a new head into my CA Lancer 18 months ago - I got it right the second time though, and was feeling pretty confident that I'd wired manda's corolla up right as well...
not so. I could have sworn I had it wired right - i tested every freakin wire with the lights on and off! but 48 hours and two fuses later I was back there patching up my dodgy wiring efforts...
anyway it's all good now... I think/hope

well, as you might be able to see, I FINALLY have my blog up on the front page!
HURRAH!!!! The backend is finished and just tonight I hackishly turned my proof of concept/output test page into an include for the main page! Obviously you'll see some changes and the whole thing will be neatened up dramatically; more stuff will be added to the top and bottom of the page with the blog inbetween as well.
But that is that! The backend engine is finally (more or less) finished. Just tonight I decided that it might be a good idea to have a title field so I added that into all the forms and into the database, so if you're wondering why so many of my recent posts have the same title, that's the reason!!!
The only major changes I need to make for my blog engine is a wee bit of code making sure the location and title (and message for that matter) fields aren't left empty; currently there is no safeguard against that.
But that's that. The blog is functional. It is on the front page. All these weeks of meansing have finally resulted in an end. So take that Seeley :P
Expect other pages on my site to become active over the next couple of weeks.
I'll also be registering a domain soon... I'm thinking something along the lines of, ooh, fraseonline.net but I'm open to other suggestions. Email me here if you have any good ideas.

ben and i have just been on a fun trip photographing north pine dam and surrounding area! actually we didn't really intend to go there, but that's where we ended up. I decided we should go out the back of Bray Park since I noticed some nice parks and stuff on the way to a party out there recently... but we kinda kept going and made a right turn and BAM! there was forgan's cove! I never even knew there was a back way!
