I did a reinstall of windows... WITH service pack 2!!!
and, well, everything's peachy so far, which is a relief. Only now I'm going to have to go through my enourmouse catalogue of Windows Updates and work out which ones no longer apply... which won't be fun :/

as many of the visitors to my site may have noticed, I have a tendency to write 't' at the bottom of every post. this is not a local phenomenon, but rather it extends to all forms of online communication - forums, sms and email are all subject to this peculiarty.
So, where did this all come from then?
Back in the day, several years ago when I was still in high school, a few people began calling me 'Mister T'. Not many, but a few of my buddies in IPT, and that was basically the only nickname I ever had that wasn't some variation of my first name. Except for being called 'toady' or 'toad boy' for a very brief period a while back - but that is a story for another day...
When I began posting on internet forums, I decided to use Mister_T as my alias. And for no particular reason I got into the habit of signing all my posts 't'. It just seemed a logical thing to do - better than not signing off at all and shorter than writing the whole thing.
And that's about all there is to the story really... I just got into the habit and it spilled over into other forms of communication. Sometimes I even type 't' at the end of a big blab on msn or irc just because I'm so used to doing it!
So, that is the story of why I type 't' at the end of my posts.

Very upset that I missed Cybster's set but alas I was not in a good way on Sunday afternoon/evening so I just slept... very disappointing indeed but I certainly don't regret my decision.
OH! And the Shrimp Shack Jazz Band... with guest vocalist Ayesha Richards! On ya Ada - top show!
Fantastic weekend just hanging out with my friends and worshipping God and celebrating Jesus' resurrection and the life it brings... great times, and plenty of antics from Kai the German Guy, as expected :)
Didn't see my cousin Dredgy's band play - couldn't remember what they were called :S Disappointing but I think there's a recording of the show somewhere so hopefully I get to check it out...

I can't wait for this to arrive. I ordered it in @ JB the other day. Unfortunately it will take 4-6 weeks to arrive, but I guess you get that with imports.

one day a few years back we were having dinner at Grandma and Grandad's (this was not an uncommon thing), and as is often the way with family gettogethers, the olds like to get reminiscing of the 'good old days' of 'life' on the 'farm'...
what transpired that evening I will never forget... it had me rolling on the floor in tears of laughter.
somehow, the conversation turned to Dad and his boyhood experiences with the chooks. Being a farming family, they had quite a few chooks - not that it was a chook farm or anything (dairy farmers actually); they just had them as layers.
And apparantly, when the chooks weren't quite laying as many eggs as they would have liked, the old man (who was back then quite young) took it upon himself to treat and negotiate with them. He would go and sit in the chook pen for hours on end, holding a 'Summit Conference [sic]'.
He also had names for them - names like 'Bumblefoot' and 'Growthbelly'.
Ah man, I'm cracking up just remembering this!

well - I thought three entries would be enough for one day so here's something that really belongs in yesterdays batch:
yesterday, a little before 7am, my alarm clock went off. After groaning, rolling over, slamming my clock to turn the alarm off and then rousing myself enough to sit up on the edge of my bed, I sat.
I sat, and I thought. And I could not for the life of me remember what the HELL I was supposed to be up for. All I knew was that I was up, probably for some semi-important reason (otherwise my alarm wouldn't be set) - and that was it. No matter how hard I thought about it I just couldn't work it out! Something was seriously wrong.
After sitting for a little while more I worked out a plan. Okay, run through every single thing it could possible be and eventually I would *have* to work out why I was up. The first thing that came to mind was work. Did I have a 7:30am start today? Or maybe a little later - 8 o'clock? I didn't even know what day it was!
Eventually I decided that it couldn't have been work, so then I thought that maybe I had an appointment of some kind, but that didn't ring any bells either, so I moved on.
School? No wait, I'm not in school anymore... I go to Uni.

UNI! Crap! By this time several minutes (seriously, like 10 minutes or maybe longer) had passed and I had no hope of making the train.

what is this exciting news?!
Well. let be start by going back... waaaay back into time, to December 2003. A terrible thing happened early that month. Something very dear to me went missing. One second it was there, then all of a sudden, it was nowhere to be found. I searched high and low but after a few days I was beginning to get the idea that I might never see it again. I was devastated, but time healed the wounds, and I moved on. But my beloved Pillows CD was never forgotten...
Rewind a few days ago, and here I am, working at the computer, and who should happen to enter the room but my sister Claire (which isn't really that amazing an event - what was amazing was what she was carrying in her hand).
"Hey Frase, I was just going through my CDs and I came across this one with all this weird singing in another language... do you know what it is?"

My beloved Pillows CD!!!! Claire had it all this time and never realised it! Amazing! I'm a little disgruntled that she has had it all this time without realising it, especially since I looked so hard for it when it first went missing - but really I'm just glad to have it back! Needless to say I have been listening to it almost non-stop since I got it back :)
[For those who came in late: The Pillows are a really awesome Japanese band.]

the past few days I've been working on bringing my site up to scratch with the currect w3c XHTML 1.1 standard. When I first parsed the site it had literally hundreds of errors, but I chipped away at it and now there are none!
For good measure I ensured my site was CSS compliant as well - and it wasn't (shock!). There was a typo in one of the directives, so I fixed that one up and it was all good!
For good measure, I threw in a couple of 'compliance' icons which were initially in the sidebar. They didn't look quite right there but there were the perfect size for the footer ;)
in other news I have my first assessment for the semester tomorrow, for which I have done no prep whatsoever, but I have a two hour break right beforehand so I'll attack it then I suppose.
AND an amazing thing happened the other day! aah nah too bad - it's too much of a hijack so you'll have to wait 'til another day to hear it! It is amazing news though! I am just so stoked I can barely contain my excitement! But you'll have to wait :P

many of you were probably unaware but previously I was using absolute positioning to get the 'back to top' links in the archive pages in the place I wanted them. Gecko borked on the absolute positioning as when it was rendering the page, it would lock everything into place, usually before it had received all the content (specifically images that hadn't loaded and were displayed as small placeholders in the meantime). Obviously when the page was cached it rendered it properly but after flushing the cache the bug was reproduced without fail (only in Gecko browsers though), and 'back to top' links were appearing all over the shop.
I spent some time nutting out the problem and searching up possible answers and FINALLY I've got something that works :)
A stylesheet without absolute positioning is far more elegant and I don't feel dirty when I think about it anymore.

getting there people, I'm getting there. Last night I built the links page; go there for all sorts of linky goodness. I'll be adding a whole heap more links over the next week or so.
ALSO: although this is kinda short notice, I'll be running a whole heap of DoS stress tests against the webserver so don't be surprised if the site goes away for a little while...

considering the sheer boredom that can result from four hour breaks at uni, I decided to organise to meet up with a few of my lady friends and chill. I met Jessica (yup, that's Jessica of #jessica fame) at about 11 and we went and got some grub at the refec, before being confronted by some protestors rallying support for some anti-VSU (voluntary student union - never even heard of it before today) protest. We ignored them and threw away their propaganda as soon as they were gone.
There were also some people handing out free heavily caffinated iced coffee drinks near the refec so we grabbed some of them (might help me get through my two hour lecture this avo) before heading to the Great Court to meet up with Jo and India.
Then we cruised over to Indro to bum around for a while. Jo and Jess went to play some DDR (not the RAM) @ the arcade there, but since that isn't really my cup of tea India and I cruised back to uni; we both had more lectures this avo anyway.
And that was my day. Well... so far anyway. Beats bumming around uni for four hours. Hahaha, I also ran into about 10 people I know while bumming around with Jess. She was like "wow, Frase knows so many people", but I don't really. It was kinda a fluke.
India... so hot right now.

Well, I had a one hour lecture at 9am this morning, and that's all for the day. Three hours of travel for a one hour lecture. I'm going to have to see a movie or something to justify this...
Man, it's going to be a struggle getting back into 'Uni mode' after four long months of holidays! I missed the train this morning so I just went for a drive down the highway and intercepted it at Carseldine. Unsurprisingly I missed out on a seat.
On the positive side of things, I actually woke up feeling refreshed this morning which is something that hasn't happened in a while. I only had three hours of lectures yesterday but man, it really took it out of me! I even slept on the way home with Danny.
I'm going to cruise into town now and see what's going down.
